PSI461 Advanced Substance Use and Addictions Treatment

The students will gain foundational and comprehensive knowledge of substance use disorders to include:
emerging trends, biopsychosocial model, treatment approaches, group facilitation, medication management,
addiction as a brain disease, social aspects of addiction and more. The students will have the opportunity to
participate in an internship at Strong Recovery which provides the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills
learned from this course to practice. The course is designed to meet section 1 requirements for credentialed
addiction counselors (CASAC) as established by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports
(OASAS).
